Preface
From the being of my search for a book of literarty merit, I was set on reading something by Mark Twain. Since reading Huck Finn a couple of years ago I have loved pretty much everything I have read by him. At first I was going to read Letters From the Earth, however, there were too few sources to get information from about the book. As it came down to the dead line to pick a book, and to write this preface, I still had no clue what i was going to write about, since Letters From the Earth seemed to be undoable. I then asked Mr. Kreinbring about what he thought I should do for a book, and he told me of the book A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. It was a book I had never heard of and because of that I was curious to see what it was all about. I then looked to find articles about it and found that there were tons of articles I may be able to use. At that point I decided that, that would be the book I would use for my English project.

do i dare disturb the universe
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
My favorite part of this poem is the fourth stanza. The best part of that stanza (and I believe anyone would agree) is “Do I dare disturb the universe.”, it is the best part of the entire poem I would say. The reason why that line is so important is because it is an oxymoron because no matter what a person does they are in someway disturbing the universe. Asking “Do I dare disturb the universe.”, is more like asking do I dare live. To often people ask do I dare, and that is what eliot is getting at. There is tons of time for a person to change their mind, or reverse a decision. He is saying people should do whatever they feel because there is always time to change it. To convey this feeling he writes
| “In a minute there is time | |
| For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.” |
He says in a minute there is time, there are 60 seconds in a minute, if that is enough time to reverse a decision imagine how many decisions people could make, but do they dare disturb the universe?
